Do you sell stuff online? If you do, chances, out of 10 people coming to your website, perhaps only 2 will decide to buy (if you are lucky).
And you cannot discount the possibility that 1 of them may just opt out and call it quits – right at the order page!
So how can we increase conversions? How can we stop your visitors from having cold feet at the last minute?
Simple. Do three things.
1.Soothe their fears.
2.Re-affirm their buying desires.
3.Ceate a path of least resistance for them.
Let me explain.
Buyers are wary of spending online. Why should they trust you? Why should they put their hard earned money in your pocket?
For all you know, they may thinking that you a scamming “prince” from Nigeria?
Therefore, before buying, they want to know if you are trustworthy. And that any purchases they make will carry little risk to them.
Re-affirming of buying desire is important because you want to remind them why they need this product. And that it’s in their interest to get it. This is important for overcoming buyer’s remorse as well.
Creating a path of least resistance is about making the order process as seamless and smooth as possible. Don’t make the user think or do too much. If they already decide to give you their money, make it easy for them.
Here are 10 conversion-boosting tricks you can implement right now…
1. Have a “trust” logo up on your webpage. Logos from accredited firms like Better Business Buerau (BBB) can give a sense of security to your visitors. Locally, we have TrustSG.
There are others from Verisign and MacAfee that can be effective as well.
2. If you offer a 30 day money back guarantee, express it by displaying the money back logo that the visitors can see clearly.
3. Put up an image of a green lock because the color “green” is commonly used to signify “security”.
4. Put up an orange or green “buy” button.
5. If you have awards, display it. Put up your testimonials and make them as specific and believable as possible.
6. Ensure congruency. Customize the “order” page to have a similar layout and color scheme as your website.
7. Put up a video that can walk the user through the buying process – step by step.
8. Focus on simplicity. Don’t let your buyers fill countless fields. They have already decided to give you their money. Don’t make it any more difficult than it should be.
9. Put down your address, phone and fax number. This is to show that you operate a real legitimate business. And you are not a scammer from Nigeria.
10. Ensure that your website and order page are compatible on all browsers (e.g. Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox etc). You don’t want the users to be seeing errors on their computer.
